The idea to create New World Beautiful started with just one product: Skin79 BB cream. And only now am I getting around to writing a review of it!
When I first heard of BB cream- the South Korean miracle product that moisturizes, protects you from the sun, conceals, fights aging, and folds your laundry- I wasn’t going to settle for trying just the American versions; I wanted the real thing. A quick google search led me to Skin79’s website and there I was inundated with seemingly countless variations of “Beblesh Balm.” (Fun fact: There’s a crazy trademark law in South Korea that protects the word “blemish” so Skin79 had to improvise.)

I felt completely lost looking at all the different types of BB cream Skin79 offers: Diamond, Super+, Pearl, Whitening, Wrinkle Improvement, etc, etc. Even though my heritage tells me I’m half Asian, my skin yells out, “Look at that white chick!” so I had no idea how something meant for Korean skin would work for my Irish-German complexion.
Luckily, Skin79 (and Amazon) sell an inexpensive trial kit featuring four 5 gram tubes of Skin79’s best BB creams. Here’s a quick rundown of how each tube stacks up (I hyperlink to both the Amazon and Skin79 sites):

Diamond Prestige in the light pink tube:
Sheer coverage with a dewy finish. Matches very close to my skin tone and blends easily.
Super+ Triple Function in the hot pink tube:
Medium coverage with a natural finish. It has a thicker formula and surprisingly, it’s slightly darker but still blends well.
Super+ Triple Function Gold in gold tube:
More complete coverage and a natural-to-matte finish. Similar to the hot pink BB cream, but doesn’t blend as easily since it’s a bit thicker.
Luminous Pearl in silver tube:
Sheer coverage with a dewy, glowing finish. This is the most liquid formula and it has a bit of glitter in it. I can see why they call it “luminous.”

My favorites are the Diamond Prestige and the Super+ Triple Function. In an ideal world, I wouldn’t have to wear any type of coverage, but who am I kidding, right? I like how the Diamond Prestige evens out my skin tone but still lets my freckles shine through. However, I still have some scarring on my face from the giant rose garden I inadvertently cultivated a few months ago, so I need a bit more coverage than the Diamond Prestige cream can give me, and the Triple Function provides that.
If you’re worried about covering up roses, scars or dark circles, you definitely need to pat this product on. If you rub it in, it almost blends too well and it won’t hide anything. It applies well with just your fingers, but you might be a little freaked out the first time you see the actual product. Each cream has a gray cast to it, and it’s most noticeable in the gold cream. There’s no need to worry, the BB cream is SPF 25 and uses physical sunscreen ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which give it that gray hue. It disappears as soon as you start blending the product.

Skin79 BB Creams get a lot of love from makeup junkies, but there are a few things I want to make sure you know about before you start filling up your virtual shopping cart.
The trial kit that I received says that each tube contains 5 grams of product, but that’s not always the case. The tubes are not filled to capacity and you might get a lot in one tube and very little in another. If you buy the full size version though, there’s no need to worry. It comes in a vacuum pump which assures you get all of the product out of the bottle.
Lastly, only buy Skin79 from reputable dealers. Apparently their BB creams are so covetable that fakes are flooding the market. Check out SugarReviews.wordpress.com as they have a great article on how to spot imposters. Skin79 is not an expensive brand, but if you find a price that seems too good to be true, than it probably is.
